The inside is marked, Whiting & Davis Co. The 15 1/4 inch brass-tone chain has ornate links (9/16 inch) spaced by jump rings. The purse's bottom has triangular shaped mesh fringe. These vintage mesh purses are like a piece of art and look beautiful hanging on a wall or in a frame. I've always thought of them as a piece of jewelry for your hand.The body of the purse measures approx. 8 x 6 1/8 inches.
This piece has survived many years and was most likely stored in a dry place. It was well loved and has some antique wear with enamel worn off in places. There is a 5/8 Inch hole in bottom where jump ring connectors are missing. There are gaps on both sides where rings have come unwired from the frame along with a string repair, as photographed.If you are a handy with jewelry design or metal wire you may be able to restore the functionality of this little beauty.
